Gay Support: Where to Find LGBT Help and Support Groups, HealthyPlace. The choice of activities allows each man to create his own personal experience.
For some, a Gathering is like going to summer camp — for some who may not have had a chance to go as a kid… or to do it all over again in a safe, supportive space. We have differently-abled men and men from all cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
You’ll find a wide variety of ages to our men, though CMG isprimarily attended by men over 40.
These gay support groups can help people through the challenges associated with gay discrimination and stigma. This means that support groups are led by other LGBTQIA+ people and not necessarily professionals. Being gay, of course, is not a mental illness, but support groups can often benefit from professional leadership.
Gay support groups for the families and friends of gay people can offer help with:1
- Helping a gay loved one through the challenges of coming out
- Parenting a gay youth
- The coming out process of the family member or friend
- Coping with changes in expectations due to sexuality (expectations of marriage, grandchildren, etc.)
- Dealing with discrimination and stigma
- Feeling included and normalizing minority sexuality
- Finding an accepting community
Gay support groups offer similar advantages for LGBTQIA+ people:
Finding LGBTQIA+ Support Groups
LGBTQIA+ support groups can be found through mental health organizations and professionals like:
LGBT family and friend support groups can be found through this Gay Parent magazine directory or through PFLAG – Parents, Family and Friends of Lesbians and Gays.
Gay help and resources can also be found through local LGBT organizations and online.
This allows LGBTQIA+ people to support each other through life's challenges.
Some LGBTQIA+ support groups may also be run by professionals. The men who attend CMG Gatherings (and our hundreds of local events) are a diverse group of varying ages, beliefs, religious traditions, cultures, ethnicities and spiritual practices.
Don't hesitate to reach out and share your ideas with us - your voice truly matters in shaping our community.
Your gateway to the global gay community
Welcome to the epicenter of online gay groups – a global hub where you can connect, share experiences, and engage in lively discussions with gay men around the world. LGBTQIA+ groups are often targeted towards specific groups of people.
So, be sure to keep coming back for fresh updates! In the meantime, if there's a particular group you'd love to see on ComeOut, we'd be thrilled to hear from you. We welcome all adults who self-identifies as male – gay, bisexual, straight, transman, genderqueer, intersex, gender fluid – who wishes to participate in a community of men.
What happens at a gathering?
An all-volunteer Planning Committee is formed for each Gathering that designs each retreat to include large group activities with smaller workshops with a wide choice of topics, perspectives and activities (even a few being clothing-optional from time to time).
Luckily there are many support groups for LGBTQIA+ people. Join us and find your place in our global gay community.
Download the ComeOut app and start exploring the diverse gay groups on ComeOut today. Connect, engage, and grow with us. This might be a professional group facilitator or even a mental health professional. (LGBTQIA+) support can be extremely helpful for people but only if gay people feel comfortable enough to get it.
One of the challenges in reaching out for support if you're gay is that you may feel that others who are not gay will not understand your particular situation.
We eagerly look forward to hearing from you!
Gatherings
Each of our Gatherings—Spring, Summer, and Fall—is an extended weekend retreat where men explore different ways of looking at life and expand concepts of self while having a lot of fun at the same time. Our app will host an array of groups, each offering unique spaces for connection, conversation, and camaraderie.
