Since the show’s premiere back in 2019, Kelvin and Keefe’s relationship has been a fan favorite — a tender, complicated, and deeply funny reflection of what it means to navigate queerness in a conservative, church-drenched world.
After three long seasons of emotional ping-pong (and one unforgettable first kiss that had us all clapping), the two finally embraced their love and walked boldly into their happily ever after.
And folks, the proposal?
A significant part of what makes Kelvin funny is this ambiguity about his character. In season 1, Jesse tells Gideon that he would happily accept if the latter were gay. While on another Smut Busters operation, the two of them take the time to reflect on what it means to judge people for what they do behind closed doors, implying that they engage in similar activities together, and decide to ease up against sex shops in general.
The nature of the relationship will undoubtedly be explored in the fourth season, which was greenlit earlier this month.
He more confidently rejoins his siblings, who offer their approval before taking the stage.
The two of them double down on their feelings for each other in the season finale. Keefe is among the first to spring into action upon learning that Kelvin is in danger, realizing how much the youngest Gemstone means to him.
Season 3 tells all.
As the youngest of the three Gemstone siblings, Kelvin often tries to prove himself in the eyes of his pastor daddy and two older siblings. The first three seasons of The Righteous Gemstones are now available on Max.

Though the church was originally run by widowed pastor Eli Gemstone (John Goodman), Season 3 sees Eli retire and church ownership and operations inherited by his three crude adult children Jesse (Danny McBride), Judy (Edi Patterson), and Kelvin (Adam DeVine).
Until recently, Keefe had been a hedonist, so he is very much aware of the sexual tension between them. And sometimes, it does so with a wink, a grin, and a spit handshake. The Righteous Gemstones, HBO’s sharp, satirical comedy about evangelical megachurch shenanigans, wrapped its four-season run in 2025 with a finale that left fans both cheering and (let’s be honest) a little teary-eyed.
“I knew that I could play that character, but what I tried to do for this character, weirdly enough, is really ground him and make him seem like a real guy. Part of this can be attributed to how Eli brought him and his siblings up. “Even marriage.” Swoon.
From there, the wedding was peak Gemstones — unconventional, quirky, and 100% them.
“I mean, I’m playing a man-child, which is something that I’m oh so good at,” he told The Hollywood Reporter. Eli is a demanding, and at times, harsh parent, who controls various aspects of his children’s lives. Forget traditional vows. But, for now, they seem to be content by writing the character into hilarious and homoerotic situations.
