Each person-regardless of background-is called to acknowledge God’s holiness, confess sin, and receive the gift of salvation from Christ’s atoning sacrifice.

⁶ And Lot went out at the door unto them, and shut the door after him,

⁸ let me, I pray you, bring them out unto you, and do ye to them as is good in your eyes: only unto these men do nothing; for therefore came they under the shadow of my roof.
⁹ And they said, Stand back.

These evidences uphold confidence in the trustworthiness of passages addressing topics such as sexual ethics.

Many have struggled with reconciling their faith and their sexual identity, often facing rejection or discrimination from their religious communities. Ephesians 2:8-9 states: “For it is by grace you have been saved through faith, and this not from yourselves; it is the gift of God, not by works, so that no one can boast.” This unequivocally establishes that those who genuinely trust Christ and repent are assured eternal life:

• Faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.

• Repentance, acknowledging sin, and confessing it before God.

• Ongoing transformation by the Spirit’s power.

Individuals who identify as gay-like all other individuals-are called to this same pattern of faith, repentance, and Christ-centered living.

Pastoral Care and Compassion

Throughout Christian history, believers have found deep hope in the transformative power of the gospel.

But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God” (1 Corinthians 6:11). These communities maintain that faith in God, a relationship with Christ, and a commitment to a life of compassion and justice are what truly matter for salvation, rather than one’s sexual orientation.

Many LGBTQ+ Christians have found welcoming and supportive communities within affirming churches, where they are encouraged to embrace their sexual identity while deepening their faith.

Multiple New Testament passages emphasize God’s invitation to every person. On one side are churches that teach that homosexuality is blessed by God. On the other side are churches that condemn all homosexual thoughts and actions as deserving of eternal judgment. Their actions changed. The result is a new creation, a people “set apart by the Spirit for obedience and for sprinkling with the blood of Jesus Christ“ (1 Peter 1:2, HCSB).
