Trigger warning: explicit sexual content
Alleged Scottish teen conjoined twins went viral on social media after opening up about their different sexual identities and providing extremely intimate details while answering questions about privacy, relationships, and their medical conditions.
Taking to Reddit’s AMA (Ask Me Anything) community on Monday (April 29), 19-year-old conjoined twins, who go by “Mia” and “Lia,” claimed that they were connected at the abdomen.
- Conjoined twins Mia' and 'Lia' shared intimate details of life, discussing their different sexual identities on Reddit.
- Despite sharing a body, Mia identifies as a lesbian and Lia as straight, having had relationships illustrating diverse sexual identities.
- 'Mia' and 'Lia' have two brains, two hearts, 'four-ish' lungs, two livers, two stomachs, but share intestines, bladder, and reproductive system.
They subsequently described having two different brains, two hearts, and “four-ish” lungs, stating: “Our left and right lungs respectively are kinda fused so it’s more like a third lung than a fourth.”
The sisters further said that they had two livers and two stomachs, “and then below that we share our intestines, bladder, and our reproductive system.”

At the beginning of the AMA, Mia explains that she is a lesbian and Lia is straight.
Mia had recently come out of a relationship after she went to university while her sister had a long-distance boyfriend in her teenage years.
One question they were asked was if it felt like inc**t when they pleasure themselves.
What works for them is good.”
How often do you m*****bate?
One user asked how often the sisters had turned to self-pleasure, but they were quick to shut it down by responding: “We have m*****bated in the past, but we’ve agreed not to do it as it was too uncomfortable for us.”
Mia also explained that feeling aroused almost felt the same as if one of them felt hungry, anxious or tired.
“If you aren’t the one that’s getting aroused you can kind of tell your g***tals are aroused without being aroused yourself,” Mia continues.
“It’s the same for other things.
Detailing more about the uncomfortable nature of it, they said: "Imagine someone touching your shoulder, incessantly. This phenomenon, while not fully understood, highlights the intricate ways in which their bodies and minds are intertwined. The potential risks and complications associated with pregnancy and childbirth are significant, and these decisions can impact both twins’ health and well-being.
This exploration is particularly timely, given the increasing visibility of conjoined twins in popular culture and media, where accurate representation is crucial to fostering acceptance and understanding.,conjoined twins, sexuality, anatomical connection, societal implications, human experiences
Understanding the Complexity of Conjoined Twins’ Sexual Development
Conjoined twins present a unique challenge to scientists and medical professionals due to their intricate anatomical fusion.
Do you have secrets for each other?”
“Yes ofc (of course) we have secrets!” Mia replied.
They also shared that due to a blood clot that had formed in Lia's arm, she now has "permanent severe chronic pain".
Due to that, it is normally Mia who does the "texting and writing and doing stuff with our arms". Society's fascination with their condition can sometimes lead to objectification and intrusion into their personal lives.
It would be pretty annoying and weird right? It often requires open communication and a deep understanding of each other’s needs. But she was asexual conveniently so it was not an issue for us.
“But, this is just what works for us. It feels like someone messing around with your body.”
Do you two have a discussion if you plan to have anything physical happen with a partner?
Mia responded that the twins agreed from a young age they would never have s** with their partners due to it being ‘uncomfortable’ for the other.
This constant scrutiny can impact their self-esteem and willingness to engage in romantic or sexual relationships. While this can foster a unique bond, it also raises questions about personal autonomy and the ability to make independent decisions. Is one of you more likely to feel happy or sad?
“What is aloneness for you? I drive one handed obviously [...]."
Speaking about self acceptance, Mia explained that they "just got on with things pretty much," adding: "We accepted this is the way we are from an early age.
