They’ve been doing a great job working together already and I’m hoping this is the start of something great for my team. I have a little crush, if you couldn’t tell.

Sami Whitcomb rounds out this team at point guard. As she prefers to keep it private, it has generated even more curiosity among spectators. The intra-team romance between Dijonai Carrington and NaLyssa Smith was sadly broken up by a mid-season trade that sent Smith to the Aces, but Carrington is still holding down the fort in Dallas.

Natisha Hiedeman is a talented back-up point guard. Claire Gransee also graduated from Iowa in May 2024, and then moved to Boston, which is in line with Caitlin’s message regarding flying from one coast to another coast. Courtney Williams is one of the most electric players you’ll ever see touch a ball. Since then, Martin hasn’t posted much about Claire, but she has been quite vocal about her relationship.

If you haven’t watched their live streams yet, you’re missing out.

Welcome to my annual Who’s Gay in the WNBA Report! “Switched coasts for the weekend,” she wrote alongside a mirror selfie with Claire Gransee. Off the court, she has a wife and kids that are incredibly cute. This means that the team is full of potential 6 man of the year candidates but lacks a proven star.

After drafting Paige Bueckers #1 and getting a new coach, it seems like this team is ready to take a step towards competing. For those of you who are new, every year I break down the list of athletes who are openly queer in the league. If you’re more of a pure viewer of the game and prefer only knowing what’s going on while the clock is running, I do regularly make WNBA TikToks that I like to think are pretty informative!

The league is well known to have some of the best pre-game walk-up outfits in all of professional sports, so you’re missing out if you don’t follow at least the @wnba account on Instagram.

I will be updating this post as the season continues. Cameron Brink should be back from her ACL tear later this year!

And then, Kate Martin herself responded in the comments, “she is gorgeous, stunning & perfect, I can’t lie.” Claire apparently also commented around the same time to say thank you.

Kate Martin recently graduated from the University of Iowa, where she played alongside Caitlin Clark.

But the connections to the college and the community don’t end there for Martin.

Coming from an extremely athletic family, with a father who was a collegiate soccer player and a sister who played basketball at Truman State, Martin’s maternal aunt, Julie Fitzpatrick, was also a basketball player at Drake and is now married to her love, Iowa head coach Jan Jensen.

She made her Olympic debut last year at 32 years old and is just overall someone very worth rooting for. They’ll almost surely be in the top 3 teams throughout the year, so if you’re looking for a bandwagon to hop on that’s not the bandwagon (**new liberty fans I’m looking at you**) this is the one.

In terms of queer things to know, Chelsea Gray and her wife Tipsea Moorer are absolutely adorable together.

With only two out gay players, it might seem like the dream aren’t that gay, but they are certainly going to be fun to watch.

I’m expecting them to have a half decent season and end up ranked somewhere in the middle of the pack.

My hometown team was absolutely decimated in the offseason, with the vast majority of players leaving. Her maternal aunt, Julie Fizpatrick, played basketball for Drake – and is now married to Iowa head coach Jan Jensen.

This is a win for the community, a win for Kate Martin, and definitely a win for Claire Gransee.

She joins her girlfriend Isabelle Harrison on the court for a super team that just got a bit more super. Aliyah Boston and Caitlin Clark were the #1 draft picks in 2024/25 respectively, and now they’ve surrounded themselves by talent that has what it takes to win a championship.
